ALEM STUDIOS

Alem Studios was created in Nairobi, 2022, from the belief that the future of Africa can be reimagined through Afrofuturism and driven by creative technology. Alem Studios, a creative studio explored storytelling, virtual worlds, and digital and human rights through a global lens. Partnering with emerging artists to create over 100 unique characters and narratives set in the year 2999. More than a studio, it was a platform for reimagining culture, equity, and possibility.

WORLDBUILDING


Alem, world in Amharic (አለም),  the Afrofuturistic city, year 2999.

Mt. Kilimanjaro sits in the background, with Lake Victoria sitting closer to the city. Alem reimagines Africa as a prosperous continent, with its rich culture and history.

CHARACTERS

Mwezi and Jua (moon and sun in Kiswahili), are the protagonists of Alem.

Inspired by East African folk lores, jewellery and armory.

Mwezi and Jua, polar in their beliefs but united in their mission, were bestowed the gifts of time and healing, the other, war and wisdom, by “The Ancestors.”
