PAL is an ancronym for Positive Attitude to Life. It’s a philosophy that reflected the lives of the communities it aimed to serve. PAL was conceptualised from a visit to Uganda and seeing children mine with their hands when they should have been at school.
It is framed as an innovative approach to charitable giving, by leveraging emerging technology and promoting transparency. PAL created a framework that was able to connect donors with artists, creating immutable bonds.
Based in two of the biggest slums in Africa, Kibera and Mathare, both of which are located in Nairobi, PAL supported communities with access to art, technology, and education. We reframed our beneficiaries as “artists,” not as children aid. We also believe in nonexploitation of children and never used negative imagery to guilt trip donors or create a false sense of reality.
We also partnered with local artist, Ayrosh, to produce “Positive Attitude to Life”:
STORYTELLING
One of the projects, “through our eyes,” where we gave creative freedom to artists through photography and video, to tell their stories.
All photos were taking by the artists.
